The first time England hosted a Test match against India was in June 1932 at Lord's. It was a one-off Test and England won by 158 runs. India then had to wait until 1971 before they secured a series victory in England, winning the final match at the Oval to secure a 1-0 victory in a three match series.
India's Leading Run-makers
To date, the leading run-makers in this series for India are Sunil Gavaskar, Gundappa Viswanath and Sachin Tendulkar. For England they are Graham Gooch (who scored that memorable 333 at Lords), David Gower and Ken Barrington. The leading wicket takers are Bhagwat Chandrasekhar, Bishan Bedi and Kapil Dev for India, and Derek Underwood, Bob Willis and Ian Botham for England.
Prior to the 2007 series there have been 14 Test series between England and India in England, with England winning 11, India two and one series drawn.
The first One Day match took place in 1974 and - out of 21 ODIs played in England - the home side has won 11, India eight and two 'no results'.
