Castle Lager has renewed its sponsorship of South African Test cricket, and has agreed a deal worth R60million over three years. With MTN no longer involved as sponsors, Castle is now the sole sponsor of the Test team and Test matches, and the company hopes to cash in on the current worldwide interest in the game.
The sponsorship manager of South African Breweries, Rob Fleming, says cricket offers an excellent return, especially with interest rising in Test cricket in South Africa. "This is reflected not only in growing levels of participation," said Fleming, "but also in the television ratings cricket delivers."
Gerald Majola, the chief executive of Cricket South Africa, welcomed Castle's continued involvement. "This is an unprecedented show of confidence in South African cricket by one of the world's leading companies," he said. "We are truly delighted to renew our long-standing relationship."
