Comments have now been closed for this article Bumble, talking of words what do you think of the latest entry into cricket vocabulary - Ajantha Mendis'magical Carrom Ball. It is a beautiful description of the type of delivery bowled by Mendis: similar to a Carrom player's shooting of the striker with the fingers. Sounds better than childish sounding names like zooter. Posted by Keebler on August 30 2008, 23:35 PM GMT Bumble,'mellifluous'and 'somniferous' do not mean the same thing. the first word comes from the Latin word for 'honey' (see 'miel' in French today') and refers to a smooth, flowing style (like honey being poured out of a pot). The second word is based on the Latin word for sleep (see the French word 'somnifère'= sleeping pill)and means sleep-inducing, soporofic.Imagine Geoff Boycott on a bad day.
